Always use a non-flammable, glass or ceramic drip tray under your candle. Burn your candle in a low traffic area away from drafts. Drafts can cause holes to form below the wax pool and create a leak in the side of the candle which can result in excessive wax drips and wax loss. To get various patterns, burn your candle for 2-6 hours at a time, then extinguish. Try different durations and wick heights for different patterns. Check your candle periodically to make sure excessive drips are not forming. Keep the wick trimmed to approximately ¼” each time you re-light your candle. Longer wicks will burn more pattern more quickly, but are more likely to cause drips. If your candle develops an excessive drip, extinguish the candle and break off a small piece of the drippings to cover the hole. Tip some of the liquid wax around it to set the filler piece in place then re-light. You may also want to trim the wick shorter since excessive drips are often caused by wicks that are too tall. Many candle lovers let the candle drip for aesthetic purposes, but too much dripping will reduce the burn life of the candle due to lost wax. Too much wax loss will also cause the wick to be too tall and that will also reduce the burning time of your candle. To maintain the beauty of your candle creations, we recommend using a windproof grill lighter. Regular lighters and matches can leave a black residue in your candle. The windproof lighters do not deposit any soot and the extended length aides in re-lighting the candle without breaking off the delicate patterns. |
